Microsoft Unveils 11 New Professional Certificates on Coursera to Bridge the AI, Data, and Development Skills Gap
A Strategic Expansion to Meet Workforce Demand
The rapid evolution of technology is reshaping the job market faster than traditional education can adapt. To address this, Microsoft and Coursera have announced the launch of 11 new Professional Certificates across artificial intelligence, data, and software development. This expansion increases Microsoft's Professional Certificate portfolio on Coursera by over 50%, building on a catalog that has already surpassed 1.3 million enrollments worldwide.

“We’re moving into a world where every role is shaped by AI, data, and cloud technologies,” said Elisa Graceffo, General Manager of Global Skilling at Microsoft. “These certificates are designed to help learners understand new tools, confidently apply them in their daily work, and stay ahead in today’s rapidly changing job market.”
The initiative directly responds to the growing demand for job-ready skills. According to Coursera’s Job Skills Report 2026, enrollments in generative AI content have surged 234% year over year, while Professional Certificate enrollments are up 91%. This trend underscores a shift from seeking knowledge to seeking verified, practical capabilities that translate into career opportunities.
New Certificates Across Three Critical Domains
The 11 new programs are organized into three domains where talent shortages are acute: Artificial Intelligence & Generative AI, Software Development, and Data. Each certificate emphasizes hands-on practice with real-world tools.
Artificial Intelligence & Generative AI
Five new certificates focus on AI, from foundational agents to specialized applications:
- Microsoft AI Agents: From Foundations to Applications – Learn to design, build, and deploy AI agents from core concepts to real-world use cases.
- Microsoft Account Manager with Generative AI – Apply GenAI to account planning, customer insights, and relationship management.
- Microsoft Azure AI in Healthcare (entry-level) – Develop AI solutions for healthcare with a focus on responsible deployment.
- Microsoft Generative AI Engineering – Build, evaluate, and deploy GenAI systems using Azure and modern AI frameworks.
- Microsoft Sales Toolkit with Generative AI – Use GenAI to enhance prospecting, forecasting, and sales execution.
Software Development
Three new certificates provide entry-level and intermediate pathways into modern programming:

- Microsoft Beginners Guide to C# Fundamentals (entry-level) – Write structured, object-oriented code used in modern software applications.
- Microsoft Getting Started with ASP.NET Core – Create dynamic websites and web apps with secure back-end systems.
- Microsoft Introduction to C++ Programming (entry-level) – Build foundational skills in a language critical for systems and game development.
Data
The remaining three new certificates cover data skills—including data analysis, data engineering, and database management—to complete the suite of 11 credentials. These programs empower learners to work with modern data systems and cloud-based analytics platforms.
Why Hands-On, Practical Learning Matters
These certificates are designed to close the gap between theory and application. Learners engage with real Microsoft tools, work on projects, and earn credentials recognized by employers. The emphasis on applied skills ensures that graduates are not just familiar with concepts but can immediately contribute in roles such as AI engineer, data analyst, software developer, and cloud solutions architect.
“These certificates are a direct response to the need for scalable, accessible upskilling,” added Graceffo. “By offering structured learning paths, we enable individuals to move from foundational knowledge to job-ready capability.”
The collaboration between Microsoft and Coursera continues to grow, with a shared mission to democratize access to high-quality technical education. For learners eager to stay ahead in an AI-driven world, these 11 new certificates offer a clear, verified route to the skills that employers demand.
